Press Release 2025

Green Scythe Fair Grants now OPEN!

Each year the volunteer committee that organises the Green Scythe Fair allocates grants to local green initiatives from the surplus income of the previous year’s Fair. We are delighted to announce that the 2025 Grant Applications are OPEN. See www.greenfair.org.uk/grants for info on how to apply, but be quick applications close March 31st.

This year’s Green Scythe Fair will once again be held at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Park on the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June. Saturday sees a full programme of workshops to learn a new skill including scything, crafts and sustainable living courses. On Sunday is the Fair itself, incorporating the West Country Scything Championships alongside an array of stalls and activities, including live music, performance, green information and workshops, campaigns, a Green Kidz area, the Community Tent with storytelling, and three bars selling local beers, ciders and apple juice, plus the Green Info Café and a variety local food and drinks stalls.

Full details of courses, event information and online workshops and ticket booking will be available from mid-March on www.greenfair.org.uk

To help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts from the event we levy a small carbon tax on tickets to the Fair which is donated each year to Reimagining the Levels, to plant trees in local communities to help remove carbon from the event. There is a reduced entry fee for bus users and pedestrians to encourage lower emission transport to the event.

Come by Bus

We specially contract Vickery’s Coaches who provide low emission buses to bring Fairgoers from Castle Cary, Bridport, Wells and Taunton with pick-ups along the way (eg respectively at: Yeovil, Montecute, Martock; Beaminster, Crewkerne; Glastonbury, Street, Somerton; Curry Rivel, Langport). A timetable will be posted on the Green Scythe Fair website in mid-March when tickets can be purchased.
